Katie Naranjo
Programs Director
Katie Naranjo is a native Texan currently enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin. She's a double major in Government and Public Relations.
Katie first became active locally within the Democratic Party in East Texas. Her first campaign was in 1992, when she was six, and she worked for Texas State Rep. Jim McReynolds. Katie has since worked for Gubernatorial candidate Tony Sanchez, Congressman Max Sandlin, the Texas Legislature, and many other candidates. She was very lucky to be surrounded by democrats at a young age in Lufkin Texas who taught me to be pro labor, pro public education, and pro Clinton.
She has worked with the Texas Young Democrats as a Regional Director, and currently she serves as the Texas Young Democrats Secretary. She is also the Secretary of Texas College Democrats and was the Chair of the 2006 Texas Young Democrats State Convention. In addition to activism statewide Katie worked with the University Democrats at UT as the Secretary and Volunteer Coordinator. As an officer in University Democrats she started the Capitol Internship program and raised funds to pay students to continue policy activism.
Throughout Katie's experience in politics her goals have been to create an inclusive environment to help others become active. She worked to raise $22,000 to get students active on campaigns in 2006 in Texas. Katie has also coordinated volunteers who donated over 2,000 hours of service on campaigns and in the community in 2005.
