Jamarr Brown
Vice-President
Jamarr Brown has served as a student and College Democrat advocate on the local, state, and national levels.
Previously,
Jamarr served as National Council Chair for CDA. Jamarr worked closely
with former DNC Chair, Howard Dean to find ways to engage young people
all across the country. When Jamarr became National Council Chair, he
implemented a 50 state strategy of his own. Jamarr has reached out to
college students in states that were inactive and engaged them in CDA
activities, and those students were able to win in key areas during the
2008 election cycle.
Additionally, Jamarr has served as
President of the South Carolina Federation of College Democrats. As
President, Jamarr sought to engage young people in Democratic Party
politics. Under Jamarr's term, a new and solid state constitution was
formed, the state federation grew from 3 chapters to 17 chapters, a key
working relationship with the South Carolina Democratic Party and the
Young Democrats of South Carolina was established, and events on
several South Carolina campuses with candidates and progressive
organizations were coordinated.
Within the first year of the
South Carolina Federation's existence, South Carolina received an
extraordinary opportunity to serve as the host of the 2007 College
Democrats of America National Convention. The convention was held at
the University of South Carolina, and Jamarr had the distinct honor of
being appointed to serve as the Chairman. For the 2007 convention, over
700 college activists from over 190 campuses in 44 states attended and
heard inspiring messages from the 2008 presidential candidates Barack
Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John Edwards, encouraging them to get
involved with the upcoming election and calling for young people to
make the difference and change the world.
In September of 2006,
Jamarr was appointed to serve as Secretary for CDA's Black Caucus. In
2007, Jamarr was reelected to this position. During Jamarr's two terms
as Secretary, he increased communication among the Black Caucus
membership and CDA and has reached out to various chapters and state
federations in establishing Black Caucuses. Jamarr has also
represented the Black Caucus on the national level, working closely
with the DNC Black Caucus and the Congressional Black Caucus.
In
addition to Jamarr's involvement with CDA, Jamarr serves as Third Vice
Chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party. He is a member of the
DNC Youth Council, Clemson University Council on Diversity Affairs, MLK
Celebration Committee, US Senate Youth Program Alumni Association, and
serves on the board of Board of Governors of the Youth Entitlement
Summit.
Jamarr's professional experience includes serving as an
intern for the South Carolina House Democratic Caucus, Deputy Campaign
Manager for the Randy Maatta for Congress campaign, South Carolina
Democratic Party, Kerry/Edwards 2004, and Gore/Lieberman 2000.
Jamarr
is a native of Charleston, South Carolina. He is currently a
graduating Senior Political Science and Philosophy student at Clemson
University (Clemson, SC), and will begin post-baccalaureate studies in
Public Administration in Fall 2009.
