Clark Gascoigne
Communications Director
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Clark began his involvement in College Democrats at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, where he arrived in the heat of the 2004 election. In Maine, he served as President of the Bowdoin College Democrats and Political Director of the Maine College Democrats, and in 2005, Clark was a leading member of Maine’s team that won CDA’s State Federation of the Year.
In Maine, Clark also helped produce and write for the Maine Blueprint, the first statewide College Democrats newspaper in the nation. He led the effort to plan Maine’s second statewide convention featuring Al Franken - drawing over 1,700 people and raising over $20,000 for the Maine College Democrats.
In 2006, Clark joined CDA’s national New Media Team with former CDA Communications Director Frank Chi and 2006 Communications Director Ethan Porter - helping lead CDA’s first initiative to establish a presence on Facebook, YouTube, MySpace and the blogosphere. He was also featured in CDA’s 2006 “Tuition Treadmill” video.
In 2007, Clark served as the College Democrats intern at the Democratic National Committee - where he focused on organizing the summer speaker series, writing press releases, and helping campus and state federations generate and execute their campaign plans. At the DNC Clark played an integral role in coordinating the 2007 CDA national convention in South Carolina. He also rewrote the CDA Campus Organizing Manual with then current CDA President Katie Naranjo.
Clark was appointed National New Media Director in July 2007. During his tenure, he worked with Frank Chi to launch CDA’s new website, expanded CDA’s presence in the blogosphere (especially on the Huffington Post), expanded CDAtv with a coordinated video campaign to target vulnerable Senate Republicans and worked on CDA’s “Superdelegates Video” - a project that received nationwide attention - drawing over 200,000 views on YouTube and receiving press coverage from NPR, CNN, the New York Times, the Washington Post and other media outlets.
Clark has also been a weekly panelist on the TV show “Youth in
Politics,” a statewide debate show on FOX’s Maine station. In May, he
received his B.A. in Government and Legal Studies and Theater from
Bowdoin College.
