Aarti's Bio

Aarti Sheth
Programs Director

Aarti graduated from Stony Brook University in Long Island, New York this past May where she is majored in Political Science with a concentration in American Government with a minor in International Studies. She was an active member of the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) on campus. As a Project Leader for NYPIRG Aarti set up weekly meetings on campus for students to engage in community service events. She also organized many events on campus that focus on issues that matter to the students such as predatory lending, higher education, and hunger and homeless outreach through NYPIRG. Aarti and a team of nine others from the organization were able to register 1,650 students to vote on campus within the first three weeks of school. She was also the Public Relations Director for the South Asian Student Alliance on her campus during her sophomore year where she helped coordinate campus-wide cultural shows that donated their revenue to charities.

She first got involved with the College Democrats of America in June of 2008 when she interned at the Democratic National Committee. She helped create CDA chapters in community colleges and Historically Black Colleges and Universities in battleground states. In addition, she helped plan and organize the CDA National Convention that was held in Denver, Colorado in August of 2008. At the convention, Aarti was elected National Programs Director for the College Democrats of America.

As programs Director during the 2008-2009 academic year, Aarti implemented several issue-based programs, encouraging students to get involved in the policy making process.  "Going Green" was an initiative created to promote sustainability and simultaneously support President Obama's push for green jobs.  The "No Desks Left Open" campaign was put into action to bring awareness to the increasing costs of higher education and how that is disenfranchising students during this recession.  The Winter Policy Conference and the 2009 College Democrats of America National Convention were events she planned as well during her time as Programs Director.  At the 2009 convention in Washington, DC, Aarti was re-elected for a second term as National Programs Director for the College Democrats of America.
